Get acquainted with staff and your cabin, and settle in for the journey. As you venture beyond the city limits, settle back, open a book or switch on your onboard radio upon approach to the spectacular Blue Mountains. If you’d rather be social, make your way to the Outback Explorer Lounge to meet fellow guests and help yourself to a welcome drink.

DAY 3 BLUE MOUNTAINS · BROKEN HILL · ADELAIDE
Wake up with a coffee as you arrive in Broken Hill, a classic mining town where the streets are wide and there is a pub on every corner. On your Off Train Excursion, explore the beauty of this Silver City and discover the history of mining that makes the town what it is today and the artistic culture that also abounds in the area. Visit the Pro Hart Gallery, where you can learn all about one of Australia’s most iconic and enduring artists, whose art captures the spirit of the outback. Take your time as you have a full day onboard to yourself. By the time lunch is served, you’ll already be well into South Australia on the southern tip of the Flinders Ranges. In no time, you’ll notice a dramatic change in landscape as the outback makes way for the green and golden fields of South Australia’s food bowl. Your choice for the afternoon and evening is the picturesque city of Adelaide or the historic Barossa Valley. For guests choosing Adelaide, a leisurely walking tour allows you to discover hidden secrets along the cultural boulevard of North Terrace and stroll through the Botanic Gardens to your dinner venue for the evening, the National Wine Centre. Here, you will indulge in a specially-tailored food and wine experience in this stunning venue before returning to the train. Alternatively, explore the Barossa Valley’s boutique wineries and learn about the wine making process. You will then be transferred back to Adelaide, ready to continue your journey to Perth. After socialising in the Outback Explorer Lounge, head back to your room where you’ll find your bed turned down and a nightcap waiting on the bedside table. For your next epic 24 hours, you’ll embark on the longest leg of the journey across the Nullarbor Plain.

Wake up and marvel at the raw beauty of the Nullarbor. Taking its name from the Latin meaning ‘no trees’, the ancient Nullarbor conjures up the sense of limitless space and time. Take some time to reflect on the changing landscapes in your journey and to enjoy the hospitality of the Outback Explorer Lounge as you travel across Australia’s longest single stretch of railway. Your sense of wonder will be well and truly ignited when it comes time to set foot at Rawlinna that evening. Under brilliant desert stars, enjoy an evening stop to partake in a traditional Outback lamb roast dinner under the wide Nullarbor skies.
