Aspen Snowmass Family Guide

Every generation of your family will find something to love here. Our family ski packages and kids activities in Aspen Snowmass will make your trip unforgettable.
Whether it is a family private lesson so you can learn together, a beginner’s terrain park to instill confidence, or a tubing run that got Grandpa to laugh like a kid again, you’ll find that
our four-mountain resort checks all the boxes. Most importantly, there are now more ways to save for everybody.
On this page, we have gathered together all the resources you need to start a plan for that perfect winter family vacation.
Aspen Snowmass for all ages
Being a family-friendly mountain resort means more than just a handful of easy runs where kids can learn to ski. It means a mountain resort that has everyone’s interests in heart (including hard-to-please teens).
We take pride in being a four-mountain resort that creates extraordinary winter vacations for families from around the world.
The Whole Family Loves…
Elk Camp. The Elk Camp area at Snowmass has become the epicenter of family fun in recent years with the addition of alpine coaster and tubing lanes during the day, and Ullr Nights by night, our weekly party with delicious food, a bonfire and s’mores, live music and (of course) night tubing and coaster riding.
Toddlers Love…
The Treehouse Kids’ Adventure Center. This facility at Snowmass—complete with Colorado-themed play rooms—offers childcare services with lively, interactive play areas perfect for hands-on exploration.
Ages 3 to 6 love…
Unique Ski & Snowboard School programs. Based out of the Treehouse Kids Adventure Center and The Hideout, our kids Ski & Snowboard School Programs offer the perfect balance of play and gradual on-slopes instruction. Plus, kids ages 6 and under always ski free at Aspen Snowmass!
Ages 7 to 12 Love…
On-mountain surprises, including lively art installations and kids-oriented trails and terrain. At Snowmass and Buttermilk, several areas are customized for kids, with all paths leading to an adventure. For a whole new way to slide down the slopes, stop by the alpine coaster and tubing hill located at Elk Camp on Snowmass.
Teens Love…
Something new! Hop on a snowbike and learn a novel sport on the slopes together. Weave through the trees, brave the steeps, and cruise the groomers to gain a new mountain perspective. Or ditch the skis for a day and head over to the new Limelight Snowmass and try out the five-story indoor climbing wall. Not your style? Try lacing up your skates and take a spin around the ice-skating rink right next door.
Ski & Snowboard Schools
Whether your children are 2 ½ or 17 years old, they share one thing in common: they will enjoy skiing and riding more if they’re having fun. Our acclaimed Ski & Snowboard School offers a wide variety of private and group lessons for kids, all with an emphasis on fun and safety.
Learn more about these lessons — and our two children’s centers — by getting in touch with your Merit Travel Ski Vacations expert.
CHILDREN’S CENTERS
Operated by our Ski & Snowboard School, these two Children’s Centers have raised the bar on what an integrated, learn-to-ski center can be.
The Treehouse Kids’ Adventure Center — a multilevel, 2,300-square-meter childcare facility in Snowmass Village — brings the great outdoors inside with Colorado-themed play rooms and supervised activities for children ages 8 weeks to 4 years old.
The Hideout at Buttermilk has long been considered one of the best mountains in North America to learn how to ski. And for families with young children, it just gets better with the recent addition of the Hideout Children’s Center.
Beyond Skiing and Riding
THE BREAKTAKER
For winter thrills off the slopes, look no further than the Breathtaker Alpine Coaster. Riders of this new mountain coast can wind their way through over a mile of forest on an elevated track, reaching speeds of up to 28mph. Located adjacent to the Elk Camp Restaurant, riders and passengers are able to experience the thrilling ride during the day, during special Ullr Nights, or select après extended hours.
Tubing at Snowmass, Colorado
TUBING
With multiple lift-served lanes carved into The Meadows at Elk Camp, our lighted tubing facilities, are a blast for non-skiers and skiers alike. Open during the day, and on select nights.
ULLR NIGHTS
Held on Friday nights during the winter season, this family-friendly nighttime party at Elk Camp celebrates the season with live music, tubing and snowbiking under the lights, great food, and best of all, a bonfire and s’mores.
SNOWBIKING
Yes, you can combine skiing with mountain biking. Experience the rush of Snowbiking at Snowmass with your own Snowbike lesson. The 2.5-hour session will get you up-to-speed on this new and exciting sport, and offers an alternative for non-skiers or even just a way to give your knees the day off.
Ice Skating at Snowmass Village
ICE SKATING
The romance of winter in the Rocky Mountains takes on its full effect when you and your family skate on the new ice rink in Snowmass Village. Situated in the new Base Village Plaza, the spacious rink offers free rentals and is open from noon until 9am. “Walkers” are available to those who are new to ice skating, making it the perfect introduction.
